Welcome to JLSports, where all of my thoughts and opinions regarding sports will be put into blog format for you to read and react to. My goal is to create discussion for the more advanced sports fan through topical posts.
Ever since a young age, I have always been “all in” on my interests. It started with Legos, then came Pro Wrestling and eventually in January of 2002 at 12 years old, I discovered the NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers. After more than 20 years, my obsession with football has never faltered. I am not one who will settle for just watching games and checking standings like the average fan. My fanhood has always run much deeper, not just of one team or the NFL, but the game of football in its entirety. The history of football, its great players, coaches and the schemes they run. The NFL draft, team building and any other football related topic that may be up for discussion.
Reading about football has always been my main source of knowledge (besides watching it of course). Online articles, books about the history of the game, strategy and biographies of its players, coaches and owners. Mainstream sports media is great but never offers the details I seek about the intricacies of the game, which in part is why I decided to start this blog. My hope is to make regular posts with topics that nobody on ESPN or NFL Network is talking about. Discussions that the ordinary football fan wouldn’t be interested in – something a little more geared for the hardcore football nerd.
Since my early teenage years, I’ve always had a hidden desire to write. As much as I enjoy fiction, I just don’t have the creativity or imagination for writing it myself. Sports always seemed like the right topic. Its subjective material based on facts. With a little knowledge, an opinion and a platform it appears to be the obvious choice for me. My high school ambition (or lack thereof) of being a sports journalist may never come true, but with encouragement from some people close to me, I decided to come out of my comfort zone and set up this very blog.
My objective is to create informative and opinionated content that induces discussion and is unlike mainstream sports media. I’ll post about topics and opinions I’m passionate about, current news and events in the NFL, betting, fantasy sports plus whatever topics you recommend that I feel like readers would be interested in. What I hope for above all else is interaction. Not just interaction with me, but with your fellow readers. I want your opinions on the posts, whether you agree with them or not. It could be a can’t miss parlay or a total venting session about your teams idiot offensive coordinator. I’ll get the discussions started and I want to see you take over and run with it.
I am open to any and all feedback. What you want to see more and less of. Yes, this is partially for me and my love of sports and desire to write, but it is not possible without you. This is all very new to me and there will be growing pains. Running a website is very far out of my wheelhouse so bear with me as I attempt to figure it out. I will post links to all the new blogs on social media and if you are not a regular on social media then please subscribe to the email list where I will send out the new posts.
