NFL Week 3: Game Previews, Betting Advice, and Daily Fantasy Plays

Game Previews

Giants (0-2) at Browns (1-1): Cleveland got back on track last week with an ugly win against the Jaguars. The Giants went into Washington without a kicker and lost the game by 3 extra points. It’s amazing how insignificant this game feels, even so early in the season.

Packers (1-1) at Titans (0-2): Malik Willis’ revenge game may be on hold after Jordan Love returned to practice earlier this week. The Titans’ defense has been tough thus far, but it is not tough enough to overcome the boneheaded plays of QB Will Levis.

Bears (1-1) at Colts (0-2): The young QBs are the story in this one – more so that they look like young QBs. A few flashy off-script plays aside, these potential-laden signal callers have looked rough in 2024. This game may come down to who makes the least number of mistakes.

Texans (2-0) at Vikings (2-0): As one of the marquee matchups of the day, this one got its own column on Friday..

Eagles (1-1) at Saints (2-0): New Orleans is the hottest team in the league right now. Strong defense and a newly potent offense led by Derek Carr and Alvin Kamara has the Saints dominating teams. Last week, the Eagles looked like the 2023 team that found ways to lose. There are high expectations for this talented roster who added high profile coordinators in the offseason to help regain their NFC Champion form of 2022. This game is a good test to which of these teams are real moving forward.

Broncos (0-2) at Buccaneers (2-0): Bo Nix and company head to Tampa Bay to face a Buccaneers team that has been winning convincingly. A victory last week against the Detroit Lions was a statement that the Buccs are a real contender in 2024. Sean Payton’s Broncos appear to still be going through some growing pains.

Los Angeles Chargers (2-0) at Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0): Easton Stick may get the start for Justin Herbert, who is a game time decision. It may not matter as the Chargers QB hasn’t been asked to do much..

Panthers (0-2) at Raiders (1-1): Veteran QB Andy Dalton gets the start over former #1 overall pick Bryce Young. This has been the talk of the week while the Raiders’ defense should be licking their chops either way. Andy Dalton has a record of 33-52-1 as a starter since 2016.

Dolphins (1-1) at Seahawks (2-0): Skylar Thompson gets the start after Tua Tagovailoa was placed on injured reserve after being diagnosed with yet another concussion. Seattle has squeaked out victories and is playing hard under new Head Coach Mike MacDonald. A long flight and backup quarterback doesn’t bode well for the Dolphins against these upstart Seahawks.

Ravens (0-2) at Cowboys (1-1): A big early matchup between teams under a lot of pressure. Prescott and Lamb may have new contracts, but Head Coach Mike McCarthy does not. What the Cowboys do in the playoffs this season will determine his fate. However, they need to make the playoffs for that to matter.

2023 MVP Lamar Jackson has been labeled as not being able to win the big one, a title that can only be shaken off one way. After an 0-2 start and upcoming games against Dallas and Buffalo, the Ravens desperately need to avoid a 1-3 or 0-4 start for their playoffs not to begin immediately.

49ers (1-1) at Rams (0-2): These teams typically play each other tough, but both are limping into this game beaten up. Christian McCaffrey, Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, and Deebo Samuel are all out, just to name a few.

Chiefs (2-0) at Falcons (1-1): Both teams won hard-fought games last week, each edging their competition by 1 point. Kansas City has been as good as expected and we’re still waiting to see th e true colors of Kirk Cousins’ Falcons. There’s no better litmus test than the two-time defending champions and their all-world QB Patrick Mahomes.

Extra Points

  • Justin Herbert is a huge deciding factor in PITvsLAC and that +2.5 should be based on Herbert playing. Though the QB hasn’t been asked to do much so far, they haven’t faced a defense like the Steelers’ yet.
  • It’ll be interesting to see if there’s an uptick in passing production this week. I think offenses have had enough time to get some rhythm going now.
  • A reminder that the DFS plays are value picks. Obviously you’ll need some top-flight starters on your team as well
  • Mike Evans anytime TD sounds like a gimme, but he’ll draw the coverage from Patrick Surtain today which should be fun to watch.
